Professor Ryozo Ooka

Application of Optimization Techniques to Environmental Design, Energy System Operation, and Building Shape Design

Professor Ryozo Ooka, University of Tokyo

Ryozo Ooka is a Professor in the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo.  He received his Bachelor degree at Kyoto University in 1989 and PhD degree at the University of Tokyo in 1997. His major research field is urban and building environmental engineering with a particular interest in urban energy systems, energy efficient buildings, indoor and outdoor thermal comfort and atmospheric environment. 

He has published about 200 peer reviewed research papers. He works for many academic societies including Board of Directors at the International Association of Building Physics, Architectural Institute of Japan, Society of Heating, Air-conditioning and Sanitary Engineers of Japan.

 

 

Joe Clarke

The future role of building performance simulation

Professor Joe Clarke, University of Strathclyde

Joe Clarke is the Director of the Energy Systems Research Unit and BRE Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He is a founder member and past President of the International Building Performance Simulation Association and presently leads the organisation’s Futures Committee, which addresses the evolution of energy performance assessment tools.

His research interests range from the efficient utilisation of energy within the built environment through options for sustainable energy supply, taking into account the range of technical and social issues that impact on decision-making. His work involves the development and dissemination of software tools for options appraisal to help reduce energy demand, accelerate the take-up of new and renewable energy technologies, mitigate environmental impacts and improve human well-being.
